It's my 100th post ! Whee ~ ~
Yesterday, I went with Vincent and Norman to the gym at Bedok. Thanks to CZ for pointing out the direction! =DD. Vincent was late, so Norman and I started off at the fitness corner doing some basic exercises like sit-ups and lifting the log... although actually I was the only one doing it... ahahaha. But what's really fun about exercising with friends is chatting rather than the exercises, it kinds of let you forget about the pain and heat. Vincent showed up later in around 11. The gym was quite packed. And the worst thing is it's air-conditioned.
Maybe it's me but I'm one of the endangered people who think that air-conditioning is never good for the health. I'd rather choose the sun and open air than being in an enclosed room breathing in the carbon dioxide of many other people.
Gyms should be cool and well-ventilated. Otherwise, what's the point of sweating it out in a cold room? Z E R O! But anyways, we started doing some chest and abdomen exercises. I don't quite like the gym-ed up muscle packed body, so I started off with light-weights instead. Heavy-weights will only increase the tension which builds muscle which also make you look wider and heavier.. get it? So there's no point impressing anyone starting with 50-60 KG of weights thinking that's the minimum of your capacity. But I went to the gym after all just to lose weight..my body is in a wreck.. =//
Ironically, after an hour the 3 of us went to have out lunch.I think Norman starts liking the gym? While Norman headed home, Vincent and I went talking about those days back then. Hard to imagine it's already a year since we all graduated. Actually, I've stopped trying to think about the past since moving on from Sec 2... if you know what I mean..
After bidding our goodbyes, I went over to TPJC to raid their school! WAHAHA!!~
No lah ... Kor Lin asked me over for some street-football. Although TPJC lacked a real street-football court, it's really fun using the wider area that can accommodate more people which = more fun ! They had some pretty decent players there. Soon, more familiar faces showed up, Jian Zhi, Fikri, Tedja, Ken, Norwin and Kai Fan. And an hour later, I met with someone I expected to bump into eventually... YEW YEE!! a.k.a Fishy. HAHAHA.. her hair is so short now.. lols... but she was having basketball training, so I tried not to hold her up for too long.
TPJC has a 'relac corner' in their vicinity. I guess that's quite strategically clever.
It's not hard to imagine what school life would be in TPJC... basically, it seems like a fun-loving school, not lacking of games and sport.
But even after trying out so many sports in my life 'til now, I think it only boils down to Football and Basketball. But both have their own beauty and flaws. I can't pick between the both of them....THEY ARE REALLY FUN! But in the end, the sport I chose was neither of the 2. I chose Sport Chanbara.. ahahaha ~.
Maybe it's not really publicly well-known and accepted, or maybe it's not the interest of many at all. But Chanbara is one of the branches out of Kenjutsu (剣 術). If read word for word, 'Ken-' means sword, which in most cases means the Katana sword, and '-jutsu' meaning the techniques. So Kenjutsu means sword techniques. Then by now some may be confusing and superimposing with Kendo (剣 道), in which '-do' means principle or way. So Kendo means way of the sword. So where does Chanbara come in the picture? In the 21th century, no one will be walking around with a Katana by their waistbelts. So to preserve the honour and techniques in Kenjutsu, they have developed it into a sport named 'Chanbara' which uses helmets and padded weapons but still requires the art and knowledge of the Samurai beliefs, and it's happening today as an activity! That.. is my CCA.
Today was a session of Chanbara. Maybe long swords or night classes aren't very much popular with the people in Singapore. Only 6 of us turned up. I guess the JC people are busy studying for their upcoming block tests.
"JIA YOU TO EVERYONE IN JC!! By the end of this year you'll have your A-Level Cert le! So endure and fight on!! =DD"
Anyways.. Sir Dave started teaching the 9-stroke cut set. We were quite confused at first(at least I was) but later we all got the hang of it. The 9-stroke cut set is also quite useful in sparring but i think the movement will probably eat up more time rather than bringing the sword down. Then it was freestyle sparring. Fahmi was lenient... really lenient. But sparring with him makes you feel quite relaxed on the overall so the emphasis was on learning rather than to survive. I'd call him a 'friendster' because he's quite friendly when it comes to sparring. Radzif was probably the total opposite tonight. He was very scary and serious..., a chiongster, but it's these kinds of opposition that forces you to think and react in a split second. Probably the sessions these few weeks aren't as effective and energetic as it should be, so it kind of serves as a reminder of what a real-life situation such as sparring feels like although everything around us is already as real-life as it is..Therefore, its the original way to improve by leaps and bounds. It also raised the morale in the Chambara camp. Thanks Radzif! =))
OK! And so for now it's Goodbye and SOUL'd OUT!,_
